Tracegrow – Pioneering Recycling Technology

Tracegrow originates from the early 2010s when Petri Huhtala, a farmer and entrepreneur, combines his environmental concern with an interest in recycling technology. He stands by the edge of his field, pondering how the Earth and its resources can have a second chance. Minerals have been mined from the Earth's depths for decades, but can we reuse these materials?

Tracegrow's recycling technology focuses on the black mass inside batteries, which, even after use, still contains valuable and essential trace elements. Due to the absence of efficient circular economy technology, batteries often languish at the bottom of drawers, end up in landfills, or are incinerated. Enormous potential in terms of raw materials goes to waste.

Today, at Tracegrow, we recycle valuable elements from alkaline batteries and industrial sidestreams, giving them a second life in various industries. The possibilities are boundless, and our innovative approach is scalable for global application. Our initial products derived from the recycled black mass earn approval as organic micronutrient fertilizers.

Our patented technology and energy-efficient production processes contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and environmental impact. Huhtala Yhtiöt is our majority owner, and we also have significant backing from Taaleri and Nordic Food Tech. Additionally, we are proud to count over 300 small investors among our supporters. We are united by the belief that our planet deserves a second chance.

Kimmo Hyvärinen

CEO

Kimmo is a highly seasoned leader with nearly three decades of experience spanning the finance and media sectors. He boasts a proven track record in strategy, change management, sales, marketing, risk mitigation, and coaching. Kimmo has held executive roles in esteemed organizations such as the OP Group, Fennia, and Kaleva Media, amassing unmatched expertise in these domains. Additionally, he actively serves as a board member in several diverse companies, including over five years of dedicated service on Tracegrow's board before assuming the role of CEO.

MIKKO JOENSUU

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Mikko brings a wealth of experience from related roles in well-established Finnish companies, including Boliden and Nordic Mines. His expertise spans operational matters, including facility and project management. Mikko has excelled in process improvement management, showcasing his ability to identify critical issues, solve problems, and innovate when necessary. He has been part of the Tracegrow team since 2015.

Jaakko is a seasoned commercial professional with two decades of experience in leading international business ventures and startups. His previous roles at Neste Corporation and Biolin Scientific encompassed strategic development, business planning, building and managing international sales and marketing teams, brand development, technology advancement, and related investments.
